Finasteride is a urinary retention medication. It can treat enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia). It can also treat hair loss in men. Finasteride blocks an enzyme that naturally converts Testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT tends to cause hair loss and Prostatic Enlargement in some men and women. The medication can be taken orally or applied directly to the scalp for purposes of preventing hair loss.
